Parse: An undeniable sense of well-being

It's an instruction, not a definition.

While driving home from hanging a show/stopping for fresh beer at the tasting room, we, the traffic, came upon a car going the wrong way against our one way street. Naturally, we responded with slowing and honking as they responded with stoic but noticeable fear, embarrassment and an abrupt turn signal. The car to my left had a child in a car seat in the back and when we stopped at the next light, the woman, presumably the mother, turned and smiled and comforted her child. I suspect that she was comforting herself in the same instant. She briefly looked up at me and I gave a smile and a knowing, but not knowing, nod to mean that it's good that we were all ok. As everyone drove past the stoplight, an overwhelming sense of everything being in it's right place sort-of swept over me. I realized that at this second, things were good.

Things are good.

I now have three(3) shows for first Friday, September. Technically, it's three shows in two galleries. In no particular order you can see my collaborative shots with Bethany DeMarco at FU-collective, 8th Ave just east of Santa Fe Blvd. You can also see some of my most recent project TypoGraff there in the 'Guest Artist' spot. Super-new double exposures of Typography vs. Graffiti. Uh-huh. I crossed the streams.

On the same night you may catch my stuff, as well as more collabo work at Namaste Gallery in the Highlands. New black and white, traditional silver I dreamed up after a nice rain and a close-up lens for an old TLR. Hand-printed goodness from my very own darkroom.

You and Me in Time

A note about the last image...I just spent a good 40 minutes trying to get that white speck off of a print. I kept dusting the neg and re-wiping it with emulsion-safe cleaner. Turns out it's just supposed to be there. Not completely distracting... but enough to throw me off for a while.

Been productive today; vacuuming, dishes, laundry, domestic event-type things. The best part is taking a break for some Wii or darkroom time. It could make me a homebody, but Spring is near and we have a [well designed] garden to plant.

I have music to send out. A long overdue mix-cd if anyone is interested. Another stream of consciousness from my audio device's random shuffle. Next one will be hand-picked I think.

Scratch

Listen II from [re]collection

[re]collection comes down tonight. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the show(s) in Aurora. There is limited wall space and really, one should not have too many pieces of one's own art to stare at. So there will be a good sale on the prints and maybe even the framed ones if interested and it doesn't move to my favorite wineshop, Divino. Things have come about that are prompting me to really hustle the next couple of months. We'll see if I really do it. Someday this will all make sense, right?

Fingers crossed.

Did I mention drinks?

-Yes we are, rock and muthafuckin' roll-

Check yesterday's blog and then hang out tonight at Labyrinth where the art AND the curators are frequently repurposed. 5x7's available print only or encased in an amalgamation of clear kryptonite and a recently uncovered 2-pack of Aquanet Extra Gnarly Hold.

I'll return after pouring that to do something a little better than shameless party promotion.

The Business of 3 (2)

Nope, I didn't do this flyer. Was nice for a change.

So more threes. Here is the third part of the crazy. A one-night stand at the Oriental Theater, 44th and Tennyson. Very very excited about this for a few reasons.

One, there's work I haven't shown publicly before, which can be good or bad for the artist who likes feedback.

Two, I was actually asked to participate, which has that sometimes-audible click of validation. At least, my eyes light up.

Three, the other artists showing and performing are some of my favorite bright stars of Denver. I get to have some work on the walls at the same time that Ian Cooke or Josh Novak are playing?! Hello, cello. Come the eff on. That's good stuff. I really appreciate that and I can't wait to see how the whole thing goes down. One night only, kids. I pulled some good hours in the darkroom for this one. I will have only 5 prints available, including the first, best original, for each piece. Signed and dated with my sincere thanks for the support. Please tell everyone you can about this thing. It needs help being a one-night stand AND a Saturday instead of the usual First Friday deal. Details on the above flyah.

Big thanks to
Jeff, The Scattered Arts Collective and all those behind the scenes, turning the heavy wheels.

There should be a third post, don't you think...?

The Business of 3

yep, crooked, unregistered, mixed inks and complete imperfection on re-purposed paper. Love. it.

So I'm running a little bit thin these days. Within two weeks I must re-orient my time and lifestyle. I am fine with that. It's part of exactly how things are supposed to be right now. This of course does not allow me to shirk responsibility. In fact, it is charging me with more. Maybe that all could have been unsaid as it seems so purposefully vague.

My posts are fewer and I don't want to let that slide so much. Eventually I am thinking redesign on the ol' blog here. Well, really I should say 'design' as I didn't really do too much here to begin with other than pick, switch, drag and drop. More things for a list that will span my life I think.

But I have 3 posts for you today.

Three, or 3 or merely the significance of three is big right now. This is the third showing of a collaborative project that happened last year between two photogs, Bethany DeMarco and myself. The show has some legs. A fourth venue may be nice, but I'm not sure the original could survive much more. Besides, I'd like it to go out of state, if it's going to move. At any rate, there will also be a party for this 3rd show. The above flyer was screen-printed by hand by me and my collaborator. A good fun night with some fellow ink-heads and good color. Nothing like getting a little dirty and creating something raw, good, tactile, perfectly flawed. In my designey-haste, I somehow left the date off, which you will find painstakingly written (by hand again) on all of them. My half of the flyers dated by my lovely and talented best-girl (thank you, Pretty).

It was very valuable help so that I could get my ish together on the second half of that show, which features my more luminescent stuff. It will be on the lower level of the Labyrinth Gallery, in the dark. The other pieces are upstairs so if you come, be sure to work your way around the space. It truly fits it's name. Beware of tight corners.

Where's the third? Check the next post...

B-Z

Just keep moving.

Multiple shows going on in D-town worth checking out. Jeff Ball has some quality work in TOSA Denver (developed & printed in the mighty TOSA darkroom, son!)as does Dylan Scholinski. Excellent, compelling stuff here people, don't miss. Got a tip about some Mile High Throwdown er Showdown event? Can't find a link. Might be a custom show. Eye candy for days. Will be on Sante Fe.

What else?

Me, you've seen (below) and I plan a stop at Andenken and Space and Limited Addiction galleries if possible before I wind down (or up) at Pablo's. -ain't that Pablo's logo dope-as?- See you there? Bring beer wrapped in paper bags and I will trade you a black and white print that you have never seen.

I'm all linked-out.

Limited Addiction

...because Lisa would not choose

Saw beautiful art tonight. Was crowded, I left quickly after soaking up as much as I possibly could. Wished that the people more interested in being seen would move outside so that people could actually look at the pieces on the walls.

Awe-inspiring work from Blaine Fontana.

Less than a week

I'll be taking down the show(s). I forgot that I should post some images from them. Here's the big piece (36"x28")from the doubles show with Bethany. The parents of the kid liked it so much they bought the mounted version. This show will also travel to Pablo's in May thanks to B setting it up.

Happy Sunday.

Big thanks

Great night last night. It was probably the best reception I've ever been lucky enough to have. Many thanks to my friends that hung out & had wine @ Bonacquisti as well as those who came out to Indy Ink (and waited for me to get there) to drink a beer with us. Thanks to those who were there in spirit. It was great to meet some new peeps and reconnect with old pals too. Really, thank you.

...and we sold some nice work!

Empty complaints

Sneak peek of a shot in the IndyInk show

I woke up to almost two fresh inches of snow. I might have noticed the beauty of the giant, softly-falling flakes if I hadn't been grouchy about having to get out of a warm bed. Even my dogs peed in record time and hauled ass back to their pillow and blanket. They haven't bothered to move for a couple of hours now.

In addition to that we have a healthy dose of rent, insurance, reality, creaky old injuries, errant show tags, artwork that doesn't mix with snowflakes, a hopefully-paying flyer gig deadline (yeah I know-stupid)etc...etc.

I've also got great music on the stereo in front of me, a work table to finish off the last bits and warm breakfast with exceptional coffee. Let's get to work.
