Sometimes, we do bad.

At some point, I will stop lusting after, and acquiring cameras.

That point is not right now. More medium format goodness to come in a bit.

Two shows coming up for September and a big shoot for my friends who have put together bocumast. Details to come, but you could be there August 29th for the big party.

Why not? Sometimes you just have to.

Precisa Thoughts

It's difficult to really give a thorough description on cross-processing results from Precisa. I took one of the most sought-after slide films for x-pro and put it in possibly the flimsiest camera I own. The Vivitar Ultra Slim and Wide is so very much a barely-there plastic sleeve of interesting. It's so unsubstantial that I bought two, anticipating it's early demise. After three rolls, it still hasn't broken, which seems to be a good run from what I've heard. This all being said, it was a fun experiement. The overwhelming blues are pretty awesome and punchy. I wish that I had shot more red with it. I have four more rolls to get comfortable with it, but so far, a decent 100 speed performer with lots of potential.

Oh and we went to Palisades, CO over the weekend. Lots of traffic, but time well-spent. Great food, a box of the best peaches I have ever tasted and some good shots. Let's not forget the memories. I think that's why I have a camera most of the time.

Precisa

Kinda looks like Astia in this shot, but it's not.

Yes, apologies for the silence. Very busy, out of town, work is overbearing etc.. But I have new things in the works, a collaborative show with The Fu Collective next month on and on and on and on. Hope everyone is well in your world(s),

I have a question

Subject: Typography

In my luddist (I 'made it up' and googled it and it kind-of exists) overview of typography, one of my biggest fears is to commit 'type crimes'. These are things that you simply must not do when working with type. I remember a couple of them from my one, militant, typography class in art school, widows and orphans, that [type] of thing. How that woman got through trying to teach a bunch of juvenile, wanna-be animators creative elements of solid type, I'd never know. Probably an alcoholic. But back to the point. I discovered a couple of other type crimes today and they make sense. The problem is they are oh so completely easy to do. Especially when the bread and butter application suite of the digital design industry has buttons for them! Here's what you're not supposed to do, now here are the buttons with which to do them. This goes a long way to explain why I can't find the button to do 'small caps' in Illustrator, besides the fact that I am intermediate at best with that app.

-Warning: Overt generalizations ahead-

So Illustrator, then is the choice for hard-core, control freak, type-fans with stricter backgrounds and Photoshop may well be for pixel-pushers that like to warp and bend things and alter color and perception but don't give a flying eff at a rolling donut about x-height or ascendants.

What then, if you want to be bad-ass at both? Well I think you just try. When you do things like that, you think like a designer thinks all the time, possibly. Or you just think you do. At any rate none of this is really making all that much sense and looks so elementary on the screen. I wonder what I actually learned in art/design/3d/modelling/animation/color theory/pay-for-a-thin-piece-of-paper school.

I learned that most of the time, you must teach yourself. Then what? Then you do.

Sleep (is) evading

Sometimes you can really think that you're talking. You can really think you're communicating without agenda or preface.

Really. You can be so far off and have no clue that you've said it all wrong, or worse...

You've said nothing.

Just so you know

I had 3 beers tonight so everything seems to be OK again.

I think I'm going to have to make a decent size print of this one. I developed a couple more rolls of black and white today from the trip so hopefully some decent stuff finds it's way around soon.

Best,
K

Munich: Day2 -Bonus

Today's bonus is not from Munich, it's from Paris, the Lourve to be exact. I was quite taken with The Winged Victory of Samothrace. It's one of the few pictures I took while we were in one small part of the museum. The crowds became overwhelming and I didn't feel like taking much from there, preferring to store the art in my brain.

At any rate, I have been waiting to see this image for a while now. The film has been sitting next to me for days. I have allowed myself in the midst of heavy work on another project to steal a glance. It's worth it, all of it. The project will be completed soon and I'll tell you all about it here.

All of a sudden it all went dark

News items:

JV has a new album coming out and the Kurt Cobain movie I heard about a while ago will also be around. Barsuk news has juicy-good content. I look forward to more 180-gram vinyl and time spent laying on the floor next to the record player with headphones full of scratchy, analog goodness.

Got some work issues to deal with. The journey is long and this is a small time in the greater pool, but damn. It's significant and I am very out-of balance. It's to the point that sometimes I feel the cellophane film of a forced smile. In desperation, sometimes we resort to what we used to know or what has been easy in the past. Regression is easy and natural. I will struggle (hopefully) in the most beautiful manner I can muster against that.
It's just for a while.

I really do not have much to complain about. Further, I have amazing support and the love of good friends and family.

so. very. thankful.

One cup of Coffee

...then I'll go.

I may be bringing a thermos in the mornings if I can't get my shit together. Wait, I don't own a thermos. I do own a decent size travel mug though. That'll do.

(do you hear my correct voice when I write?)
