Plea

Please send all available polaroid pack film to me for (im)proper consumption. I love shooting this giant camera to make polaroids. I also shot some 120 film today, but there's something about packing huge extension rings onto a camera that is easily capable of breaking my tripod just to shoot a polaroid. You can't even get the damn dark-slide out of the polaroid back while the thing is mounted to a tripod! I'm going to either make some kind of extension or deal with moving the camera or exchanging heavy backs for at least 5 minutes before capturing any images.

Slows me down.

Parse: An undeniable sense of well-being

It's an instruction, not a definition.

While driving home from hanging a show/stopping for fresh beer at the tasting room, we, the traffic, came upon a car going the wrong way against our one way street. Naturally, we responded with slowing and honking as they responded with stoic but noticeable fear, embarrassment and an abrupt turn signal. The car to my left had a child in a car seat in the back and when we stopped at the next light, the woman, presumably the mother, turned and smiled and comforted her child. I suspect that she was comforting herself in the same instant. She briefly looked up at me and I gave a smile and a knowing, but not knowing, nod to mean that it's good that we were all ok. As everyone drove past the stoplight, an overwhelming sense of everything being in it's right place sort-of swept over me. I realized that at this second, things were good.

Things are good.

I now have three(3) shows for first Friday, September. Technically, it's three shows in two galleries. In no particular order you can see my collaborative shots with Bethany DeMarco at FU-collective, 8th Ave just east of Santa Fe Blvd. You can also see some of my most recent project TypoGraff there in the 'Guest Artist' spot. Super-new double exposures of Typography vs. Graffiti. Uh-huh. I crossed the streams.

On the same night you may catch my stuff, as well as more collabo work at Namaste Gallery in the Highlands. New black and white, traditional silver I dreamed up after a nice rain and a close-up lens for an old TLR. Hand-printed goodness from my very own darkroom.

Feel of the print

Indeed, I am printing some new stuff. I have been in the darkroom (technically, the chems are still out) and waving hand-cut cardboard shapes on reclaimed wire hangers above photo-sensitive paper for fun.

It's really for the craft.

I am also learning that I print much better with good music. I will update my muxtape very soon to reflect the darkroom music. I even stopped printing halfway through to reroute some speaker wire and old 2-ways to pipe right into the laundry-er-darkroom for my listening pleasure.

Ultra-low numbers on these shots from my TLR and a secret bit that I've added on. Lush.

Now I'll take another break to get some food together for dinner and polish off some dishes. Maybe. See there's this new (old) camera sitting here without a shot to it's name. It's big. I am inspired by a fellow photog to name it Gozilla! Mine's a little shinier so it must be...

At some point, I will stop lusting after, and acquiring cameras.

That point is not right now. More medium format goodness to come in a bit.

Two shows coming up for September and a big shoot for my friends who have put together bocumast. Details to come, but you could be there August 29th for the big party.

The RZA rocks my world.

I was just thinking, "I only want to show what I really fucking love..." And then rethinking:

Isn't that what you're 'supposed to do, as an artist', at all times?

But I haven't done that really, at least made sure that I did that and that only, not what I think someone might like.

and then I hear "Money Don't Own Me" by The RZA and I know that it's right. It's the only way to go from here on out.

Work with Purpose

I don't have enough time from work to do work. That being said, it's a darkroom kind of a day.

Precisa Thoughts

It's difficult to really give a thorough description on cross-processing results from Precisa. I took one of the most sought-after slide films for x-pro and put it in possibly the flimsiest camera I own. The Vivitar Ultra Slim and Wide is so very much a barely-there plastic sleeve of interesting. It's so unsubstantial that I bought two, anticipating it's early demise. After three rolls, it still hasn't broken, which seems to be a good run from what I've heard. This all being said, it was a fun experiement. The overwhelming blues are pretty awesome and punchy. I wish that I had shot more red with it. I have four more rolls to get comfortable with it, but so far, a decent 100 speed performer with lots of potential.

Oh and we went to Palisades, CO over the weekend. Lots of traffic, but time well-spent. Great food, a box of the best peaches I have ever tasted and some good shots. Let's not forget the memories. I think that's why I have a camera most of the time.

Precisa

Kinda looks like Astia in this shot, but it's not.

Yes, apologies for the silence. Very busy, out of town, work is overbearing etc.. But I have new things in the works, a collaborative show with The Fu Collective next month on and on and on and on. Hope everyone is well in your world(s),

I made it to 600 posts.

It wasn't difficult. That initial sentence made it sound like it might be. I wish that I could brag about the fact that I put up a new image at every post, but I did not.

Still, there are so many more than 600, sitting around here. It makes me wonder what one would do with all of them, besides back them up onto disc. Future media won't be compatible, will it? An archive of pixels, made from an archive of film. Who will acknowledge film in the next 100 years? What about the next 20 years?

I hope to be still at it, even then. I hope film will still be there.

A Day Off

It's been too much work, lately.

As I approach

the 600th post, I realize that I don't blog much any more. I want a new layout and a new blog altogether that doesn't have to rely on blogspot. Honestly, I don't have time for the project.

If anyone is interested in assisting with something built via another platform or set of code, pixelpost, php, what-have-you, get in touch. Maybe we could trade.

Time is always the enemy, it seems.

Well I have new film in . so that's a good thing. Got some old print film, even some Precisa. It's going to be a good summer.

oh damn. I almost forgot to tell you. I made you a muxtape. I might update it at least as regularly as this, I hope. I'm not contributing too much here lately. But I'll let you know when I do in this space.

Lots of gardening happening lately. I can't wait for the heirloom tomatoes. The lettuce mix is up and very tasty.

Is this boring? I don't care. We can grow our own food.

Pirates in the News

I am conjuring up disaster clouds.

It's over, people. Let it go.

Adding the word pirate as an adjective to everything is getting extremely tired and boring. I feel that there are at least two good exceptions to this statement.

1. Space Pirate Ninjas
2. Actual pirates that do actual pirate shit in the present.

Exception #1 is obviously staggeringly cool and I think the concept of #2 is criminal and unapprovingly cool.

For the record: I think I made up 'unapprovingly' and I also typed 'the concept of #2'.

Put it in the books.

Running in the Streets

Another 10k under the expanding belt. We managed to finish the BolderBoulder's 30th Anniversary race without dying and/or training. We walked a little and still managed to only be 10 minutes over last year. All in all, a lot to accomplish before 9:30 am. So here's to us.

Now where's my beer?
