Low to Hi-lights

I'm on a mission to make myself a mix tape or two. The best part will be when I actually put it to magnetic tape and give it to someone and watch them try to open it up and grab the CD out of it.

I'm analogue for fun, for real. I always prefered spelling it analogue to analog for some reason. It has an air about it. Like there's something more.

None of this matters too much to the idea that I am bad at finishing mix tapes, which is what I was supposed to be talking about. I have 3 post-it notes by me during my work day so that when I am listening to my headphones at work I can jot something down that fits my theme. Right now, I need a road trip mix. A beautiful friend has traded playlists with me before via e-mail, but no physical copies have been made. I aim to change that with this one.

Now I've started these before, but never have I been so dilligent at keeping track of the notes I make. I don't have an order yet, just a bunch of scribbles and tracks and cross-outs. There's two road trip lists so far because there's two trips in my mind right now. There's a playlist for driving hard, getting to where you want to go and fast and in good spirits. There's another for a meander, a journey that takes it's time. A journey that makes you pull off to a cafe with nothing but character and a slice of pie that gave the town it's name and 14 residents over the past 9 years.

That's me over there, in the dust, against the ice machine that hasn't worked since JFK was president. I've got boots on that I've no business wearing and a couple of burned-in lines of dust where I squinted narrow for the two hours between desert towns. I've got a couple of cameras, a bag full of black and white and not much else. I've got 8 dollars left till tomorrow.

and that's for pie.
