It's hot like that

This was last month with me, Bethany DeMarco and Randall Bellows III

Let me be honest, i was a little worried about this show. I've never done anything quite like this. I needed to build some more things. My woodshop skills were rusty, the prints came in ok but not as clean as I'd like. I'm a firstborn and was an only child for 13 years so I have that perfectionist thing going. That also means if I'm not up to doing it all at once, how I'd like it, it just sits there. Like my laundry. Clean, sitting in one place, getting wrinkled as hell.

So I said all that to say this. The gallery looks pretty effing cool. My pieces are responsible for all the ambiet light in the place, save for one large light over the bar where food and wine lives. People will congregate around there, I'm sure, about 10-15' from the first sculpture by Shawn. We stood there and had a beer last night with the gallery lights darkened to how we'd like to see it and it looked really really insanely cool.

Forget bright white walls. Forget super-clean floor with the impression of stark brilliance in setting and production. We have stuff on crates. We have stuff on walls with black cloth and backlighting. We have stuff on risers with black cloth. We have electrical cords along the wall that I don't even care about. It's gully, but you can't see it. All you see is this dark space with brilliant little lights from Shawn's sculptures and flowing color coming from 6 lightboxes, 3 on a wall. One of the images is only a month old today.

I'm telling you kids, I like this a lot. Shawn's use of light is very cool.

Milt Denny is showing in the front gallery with some brilliantly colored pieces that I dig. They are intense and I will be spending some time there, trying to put what he's done in context. It's subjects bigger than me, I think, so I'm looking forward to it.

So if you're around, come get sucked in at The Other Side Arts Gallery, 1644 Platte St. Denver.

You know the
place.

I didn't even write a single image card. You know those things where you show the name and price? I hate those things sometimes. No artists statement to blind you either. What you see is what you get. Bring it.

Big thanks today go out to The Duck! She's amazing and if you're coming here from there, then you know what I mean. Cheers's to that!
